A rare vintage strand of authentic snake vertebrae beads from Nigeria, made from natural bone. The strand measures approximately 30 inches long, with individual vertebrae measuring approximately 5–8 x 10–13mm and approximately 2mm holes. Compared with many newer snake vertebrae strands, these older beads display greater uniformity, smoother aged surfaces, and finely defined natural structure, giving the strand a distinctive vintage character. Snake vertebrae have a documented history of use as beads and ornaments in Nigeria. Museum collections preserve Nigerian necklaces and other objects made with snake vertebrae dating to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including Yoruba examples. This vintage strand originates from Nigeria and has been restrung on traditional raffia by tradesmen in West Africa.
